Charon's Big Fat How Stupid Are You Quiz 2009!
Well I promised you a surprise. Deep down I was acutely aware that my meagre four hours sleep in between shifts last night would leave me far from willing to produce a Bitesize chunk of Baxter goodness today (tomorrow, honest) and so I believe it's time to launch this little nugget at you. Yes, in between life, the universe and everything I have squeezed a second here, a minute there and produced a quiz to test your knowledge. The quiz contains 100 questions, separated into categories from random and diverse areas of knowledge containing five questions each.
I realise that 100 questions for some of you (Nick) may be a few seconds work, whereas for others it may take some time. As such I am allocating you the lengthy time period of one week. It will actually be slightly more than one week as I cannot guarantee which day I will have free to reveal the answers but to be safe, please have your reply in by next Monday.
As 100 questions is a lot, may I recommend that you copy/paste this whole blog into notepad where you can tackle it at your leisure before copy/pasting your answers into the comment field.
No researching please! No google. The only tool you are allowed to use is your brain, allowing us to assess just how good the human mind is at storing useless little bits of trivia without you even realising it. And remember, it's just for fun!
Also, participation is mandatory. I will chase you up if I think you're slacking off. :P
And with that lengthy buildup, I proudly present, Charon's Big Fat How Stupid Are You Quiz 2009!

To be fair to future posters, I think it be better (also easier) to include only the questions I got wrong or was otherwise unsure about.
ReplyDelete2. An episode of the children's cartoon was banned after special effects triggered epileptic seizures in some viewers. Around which Pokémon was this episode based?
- Okay, I got this one right, I just never realized how engrish it was before.
6. Earth has only one real moon but it is not the only lump of barren rock orbiting our planet. Name one other.
- Shame, shame. My first answer would have been "Lilith", but you're looking for lumps of barren rock orbiting earth, not hypothetical second moons. So my answer here would have to be "Gene Roddenberry's remains."
21. Lion-O was the leader of the Thundercats. What was unusual about him?
- He was a homosexual. Maybe not *too* unusual, but at the time, children's shows generally did not discuss homosexuality.
Okay, I couldn't answer any of the Thundercats questions. I feel compelled to express disappointment in myself, but I tried so hard to watch that show when I was ages two through six! Throughout my entire childhood, I could not pin down this thing's time slot. I'm not sure if the local stations were denied the license to air it or what, but what would happen is they'd do the whole "stay tuned for Thundercats!" thing, and then show, say, Care Bears. Who the fuck even liked the Care Bears! So then I'd sit there and watch the *Care Bears* hoping to see Thundercats after it finished, but Thundercats never aired. In retrospect, this was totally unlawful, and I should have sued the TV stations.
36-40. - I've never seen Labyrinth. I had the option to once many years ago, but it was a choice between David Bowie and Gauntlet.
69. Cinnabar. - Dungeons & Dragons. (Nobody gets that.)
Alright, I knew that one too.
82. Binky.
83. Black Bess.
84. Thirty/Thirty.
85. Shadowfax.
- I feel like I should know all these. Especially Binky. Silver's rider is a given. Thirty/Thirty is Bravestarr's steed, which I'm totally proud of knowing. The reason is Bravestarr was cancelled after its first or second season, and I had to wake up at 5 or 6am to catch the thing. This was when I was 5 or 6 years old, just to give you an idea of how impossible it was to catch Thundercats. FUCK.
86. I don't know which dinosaur *famously* had feathers, so I'm going to have to go with the emu mimic Dromiceiomimus. The concensus seems to be that dinosaurs (in general) probably had feathers, but they look way more badass without them.
Um, I think I'm just gonna 'fess up to being stupid...although it is a LITTLE biased towards people that watch tv and know science so I only get maybe one or two for all those.
ReplyDeleteBUT I did know the armour/animal/phobia/mancer ones...kinda......AND who rides Binky and Black Bess. So in yer face!!!!!!
K...shaddup or I'll do a Shakespeare quiz...
BTW, been readin' Bitesize, coming together well :D
21. Lion-O was the leader of the Thundercats. What was unusual about him?
ReplyDelete-Someone made a song about him, that's pretty unusual
51. In '1337', what is a b0xx0r?

96. Who lives in Eternia?
- I think one of the Tales games takes place in Eternia, people probably live there too
I have two full sets of answers, three if you count Nick. :) Hopefully there's more coming.
ReplyDeleteWell i refuse to participate at this Quiz due to the fact it is biased for native english speaking people living in UK, USA or the NZ or the like.
ReplyDeleteAlot of questions are related to stuff only from US/UK TV culture (Thundercats, advertising slogans) or slang culture. How i shall be supposed to know what a skin is, in smoking culture? Do you know the german slang word 'Kippe'? vice versa?
Sorry i feel left out. *shrugs* (I tried my best and was able to answer maybe 20 questions right, at best)
C.
That's ok Ches. It is kinda hard to know how much of it carries over to other cultures. It's only for fun. ^^ Finland's entry was 35 questions answered so I kinda figured it was going to be a struggle for those not from major English speaking countries.
ReplyDeleteThe point is... It's amazing what little bits of knowledge you pick up! You have twenty right, that's something. You maybe even know some others. you might read the answers I give next week and kick yourself as you realise you know more than you thought. :P
Oh and the advertising slogans... I did my level best to pick major international products there, really.
ReplyDeleteYou also have advantages others don't. So far I'm thinking only you and Nick will have answered the Linux question correctly. :P And Finland's representitive surprised me by knowing what .com stood for. So don't beat yourself up about the ones you don't know, rather revel in the ones you did. ^^

I will probably accept "Hintergrundstrahlung" you're along the right lines. :) Mitochondria. :D Well done. Quite a few people getting that wrong. And you did ok on those advertising slogans too.
